Privacy Practices Notice

Pells Insurance Associates appreciates the trust you place in us when you do business with us. We are committed to protecting your private information. We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We do business with multiple insurance carriers and financial services providers in order to serve you better. These relationships help us to find the best services and best providers for your needs. While personal information about you is fundamental to our ability to do this, your privacy is also important to us. This notice will inform you of the information we collect and the practices we use in handling your nonpublic personal information.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Categories of Information Collected and Sources from Which We Collect It

In order to service your accounts and better understand your needs, we collect various types of nonpublic personal information about you and the members of your household (“you”) from the following sources:

  • Applications or other forms you provide (such as your name, address and Social Security number);
  • Your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others (such as your payment history and claims information(;
  • Depending upon the product or services you are requesting, we may receive information from medical providers, a consumer reporting agency or insurance support organization, such as motor vehicle records, insurance score and/or claims history;

Persons From Whom Information is Collected

We may collect information from individuals or organizations other that those proposed for coverage. For example, for auto insurance we may obtain a record of accidents, violations or convictions from your State Motor Vehicle Department. We may also secure a C.L.U.E. (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report that has information regarding prior loss history.

Information From Credit Reports or Investigative Consumer Reports

If you authorize us to do so, we may obtain information about you from credit reports or other investigative consumer reports prepared by third parties at our request. If you authorize us to request such information, and we do request such information, you should be aware that the information obtained from the report prepared by the third party may be retained by the third party and disclosed to other persons.

INFORMATION WE MAY DISCLOSE TO THIRD PARTIES

We may disclose all nonpublic personal information to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf, to other financial institutions with which we have joint marketing agreements, or as otherwise permitted by law. An example of some of our joint marketing agreements are our relationships with insurance companies.

Without your prior authorization and in the course of our general business practices, we are allowed to and may disclose the information that we collect (as described above in “Information We Collect“) about you or others to the following types of institutions for the reasons described:

  • to a third party if the disclosure will enable that party to perform a business, professional or insurance function for us;
  • to an insurance institution, agent, or credit reporting agency in order to detect or prevent criminal activity, fraud or misrepresentation in connection with an insurance transaction involving you;
  • to an insurance institution, agent, or credit reporting agency for either this agency or the entity to whom we disclose the information to perform a function in connection with an insurance transaction involving you;
  • to a medical care institution or medical professional in order to verify coverage or benefits;
  • to an insurance regulatory authority, law enforcement, or other governmental authority in order to protect our interests in preventing or prosecuting fraud;
  • to a group policyholder for the purpose of reporting claims experience or conducting an audit of our operations or services; and
  • to an actuarial or research organization for the purpose of conducting actuarial or research studies.

RECIPIENTS OF THIS NOTICE

This privacy statement describes our privacy practices for both current and former customers. If there is more that one person insured under this policy, only the named insured on that policy will receive this notice, though any policyholder may request a copy of this notice.

OUR POLICIES REGARDING CONFIDENTIALITY AND SECURITY OF INFORMATION

We authorize access to your nonpublic personal information to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to safeguard your nonpublic personal information.

YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to request access to the personal information that we record about you that is reasonably locatable and retrievable. Your right includes the right to view such information and copy it in person, or request that a copy of it be sent to you by mail. You may request that we make correction, amendments or deletions of any inaccurate information in our possession by giving us an explanation and the identity of the document or record that contains the disputed information. We will reinvestigate, and, if we agree with you, we will amend our records. You may then give us a concise statement explaining why you believe the information is incorrect which will become part of our file.

NOTIFICATION OF CHANGE

At PELLS, your trust is one of our most important assets. We will continually work to protect the privacy of our individual customers and will continually review our privacy policy. If, at some point in the future, we revise our privacy practices that affect your personal information, we will notify you prior to introducing any changes.
